Okie dokie, folks.  The premise of this movie intrigued me. Not because I thought it would be good. Or even a revolutionary film for the gay community.  It's not that, although it has the good intentions to be.  It's really just an awkward comedy about two guys who do what they have to do for each other.  Although Adam Sandler resists as much as possible.

Still, watching these two overweight middle-aged guys embrace a same-sex "relationship" is inspiring while it's disturbing.  (Not disturbing because of the gay thing, just because it's Kevin James and Adam Sandler...) Friends got your back. And what they do - even if it is illegal - inspires those who are gay in the community to step forward and live openly.  Good things come from this trainwreck, so it's not all bad.

It was the 90's. Adam Sandler was still funny in a sorta creepy kind of way.  And no one had touched "golf comedy" since Caddyshack.  Good idea?

Honestly, this isn't my favorite Adam Sandler and I find a lot of the jokes are stale and overused.  It definitely has Sandler's usual panache, but it's not as good as Billy Madison or even Big Daddy.  But it's better than Little Nicky, so I'll give him some credit.  I know this is some people's favorite Sandler comedy, but it doesn't strike the same chord with me.  Although it was funny to watch the mom from Modern Family play the love interest in those outrageous mid-90's threads.

Ah, the age-old debate. Hard to believe this movie is 15 years old this year. Yikes. When did we get old enough to know movies this old?

Anyway, Billy Madison is one of those movies you don't watch for content. The premise is completely unrealistic, the characters walk that fine line between adorable and annoying, and it kinda looks like a way for ex-SNL cast members to get a paycheck. And yet, somehow, I still had to laugh. It's just funny, alright... nothing beats kids wise beyond their years with an (extremely) immature adult in their midst.

Really, it's just plain fun. Don't think too hard about it. Don't worry that sitting in on a class for 2 weeks isn't the equivalent of "passing" that grade. Billy Madison doesn't do much thinking, so neither should you.
